2014 Pongal
The Pongal is one among the harvesting festival celebrated in India by Tamils in the Tamil Nadu state and also in Sri Lanka.

The Pongal festival is also celebrated as Makara Sankranthi festival at various states of India.

The 2014 Pongal festival is to be celebrated from 13th January 2014 to 16th January 2014 where the main Pongal festival will be celebrated on 15th January 2014.

The Pongal festival is normally celebrated for 4 days as Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Maattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal.

4 Days of Pongal 2014:

Bhogi 2014

The First day of the Pongal celebrated is celebrated as Bhogi festival which is in honor of Lord Indra, the supreme ruler of clouds that give rains.

Thai Pongal 2014

The second day of Pongal festival is the Thai Pongal and on this day special puja or act of ceremonial worship is performed when rice is boiled in milk outdoors in a earthenware pot.

Maattu Pongal 2014

The third day of the Pongal festival celebration will be the Mattu Pongal and the world famous Jallikattu game will be conducted on this day.

Kaanum Pongal 2014

The Fourth and final day of the celebration of Pongal is known as Kannum Pongal day where people gather together at places like beach and other entertainment places.

Special Rangoli Kollam designs will be made on the Pongal festival and special recipes will be prepared which will be shared among family members, friends and relatives.

People will be sharing SMS messages and wishes using the Social Network websites like Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and Orkut for the Pongal festival.

New Tamil movies will be released at various cinema theaters in Tamilnadu state and special programs will be telecast in Tamil TC Channels.

The Southern Railways will also be soon announcing the Pongal 2014 Special trains list for various cities to reduce the huge rush for the Pongal festival.
